Low Tide At East Point – Watercolor

Low Tide At East Point watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 24 x 18, Available)

Low Tide At East Point watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 23 x 19, Available)

East Point Lighthouse sits along the Delaware Bay in one of the most serene, beautiful locations in Heislerville, New Jersey.  In this watercolor, I wanted to portray the sea grasses and the terrain leading up to the light house.  I know this location has been painted, sketched and photographed by numerous artists over the years, but it is irresistible subject matter.  Painting on location here is unbelievably peaceful.

I painted “Low Tide At East Point” for the annual Nature And The Landscape competition through Gallery 50, Inc. in Bridgeton, NJ. The exhibit is a comprehensive look at the watershed throughout southern New Jersey as portrayed by many local artists.  I was thrilled to be included.

Red Bank Battlefield – Watercolor

Red Bank Battlefield watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Available)

Red Bank Battlefield watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Sold)

The 1748 James & Ann Whithall home sits along the Delaware River across from Philadelphia. Patriots defended the river against the British during the American Revolution. The home was converted to a field house. This watercolor was painted on location during two weather perfect days.  It is of the home looking north.  The river sits to the left.  Red Bank Battlefield is well worth the trip, especially if the house is open for tours. Frame size is 11 x 14, mat opening is 8.5 x 11. Inquiries to mucciyvonne@yahoo.com ©Yvonne Pecor Mucci. All rights reserved. Do not copy or reproduce site contents without my written permission.

Chasing The Sun – Watercolor

Chasing The Sun watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Chasing The Sun watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Sold)

Every evening in Key West everyone heads to Mallory Square to watch the sun sink into the ocean while the tall ships head in to port.  You never grow tired of it.

For “Chasing The Sun” watercolor I wanted to push the sunset colors from the reality of my poor photography to the brilliant colors I remembered.  The sky was on fire with color that evening!  The background was painted very loosely on 140 # Arches cold press paper.  I used the somewhat opaque qualities of cerulean blue on the water surface to enhance the small bits of blue left in the sky.

Frame size is 14 x 17, mat opening is 11.5 x 15.5.

The Perfect Spot – Cedarburg Plein Air

theperfectspot_mucci

Had a fun time scouting around in the Wildcat convertible!  We came around the bend in the road to this absolutely perfect spot.  The barn, grasses, silo, everything was just right!  It felt like I was standing in a painting, so the last day and a half of the Cedarburg Plein Air competition was spent by the side of the road in pure heaven!  That’s why I named this watercolor “The Perfect Spot”.

This wonderful plein air event has 150 artists participating and creating over 500 paintings during the course of one week.  I appreciate all of their hard work and am so thrilled to have been part of it.  Of course none of it would be possible without the support of my family.  Being able to share the celebration with family and friends warms my heart.  Can’t wait till next year!

Cool Run – Cedarburg Plein Air

Cool Run watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Cool Run watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

It was a nice hot sunny day in Cedarburg, perfect for painting en plein air.  The moving water of Cedar Creek was both mesmerizing and challenging.  The cool water running over the dam and cascading down the rocks mid creek was bright white in the sunlight.  My goal in this watercolor was to preserve those whites along with trying to keep a loose feel to the painting.  This location was popular and it was nice to have the company of other artists while painting.  Each artist’s view was completely different even though we were standing only a few paces apart.

Al’s Birdhouse – Cedarburg Plein Air QUICK Paint

Al's Birdhouse watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Al’s Birdhouse watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Day Four – Quick Paint = 2.5 hours of insanity … can you imagine that in this crazy timeframe you complete a painting from start to finish, including framing and dropping the painting off before the clock ticks down to 0.  But I did it!

This watercolor is my Ode to Al’s Birdhouses!  Al Buss is a Grafton, WI artist who designs, constructs and carves the most fabulous birdhouses I have ever seen.  Every piece is meticulously put together.  I love his work and I thought it would be a great choice for a quick paint.  The contrast of the blue spruce against the warm colored wood and copper was just beautiful hanging in the yard.

Apothecary – Cedarburg Plein Air

Apothecary watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Apothecary watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Sold)

If you blink, you’ll pass this little gem in the Hamilton Historic District.  This Apothecary Shop, built between 1860 and 1864, was a general store before and after the civil war.  It is now a beautifully restored private home.  The owner graciously gave me a tour which made me we wish this quaint historic stone building was mine!  Thanks to the Rasmussen family who let me paint in their driveway!

Gingerbread – Cedarburg Plein Air

Gingerbread watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Gingerbread watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Day two and three of Cedarburg Plein Air found me in the middle of town with way too many subject choices. I could spend weeks painting and only touch upon the abundance of interesting surroundings.

The Gingerbread embellishment on the 1849 Kuehfuss house is what drew me in. Of course once you start it, you ask yourself why in the world did I choose this building. So much detail for plein air, but the way the light hit the building and the picket fence made me jump in with both feet. Besides, figuring it out is half the challenge!

Downtown was full of people and I think most stopped to chat or take a look at the process. At one point I felt like I was giving a watercolor demo. The kids had the best questions!

This painting was not exhibited at the cultural center. I wish we were allowed to exhibit more than two paintings for the main event.

This historical gem is located in Chadds Ford, PA. The John Chad house was built in 1725 and sits on top of a hill overlooking the Brandywine River Valley. Believe it or not, for me, the fun part of this watercolor painting was capturing the detail of the stone work.

Something New watercolor is a painting of some wonderful antiques to be found at Royal Port Antiques in Salem, NJ. Suzanne stages all of the antiques at Royal Port so that you can imagine them in your home. I found this still life on their front porch where I painted en plein air for the day as part of the Salem County Arts in Bloom tour. Half the fun was interacting with the community!

Thank you to Suzanne and Michael Cooke who hosted the Salem County Art League in their beautiful, huge antique store. If you’re in the area, it is well worth checking it out.

The weather was great for the Salem County Arts In Bloom tour! Once again, Royal Port Antiques hosted the Art League.  Just south of Royal Port you can find many beautiful historical homes, which is where I painted en plein air.  These doors and the flag drew me in.  It was a lot of fun to talk with people taking the tour while painting.

Salem Pride watercolor depicts two homes on Market Street in Salem, NJ. To the left is the James Wood – 1760 colonial, on the right is the Samuel Clement – 1790s federal style brick.

Had a great day of painting in the Hammonton Plein Air Competition.  This quaint town has lots of interesting architectural buildings. I spent the day painting the Gazette building.

All of the paintings completed during the plein air competition will be on exhibition through Sunday at Kramer Hall Noyes Gallery, which is the newest addition to the Arts District in Downtown Hammonton, New Jersey.  Thank you to Mike Cagno, Executive Director, Noyes Museum of Art, who made this event a fantastic experience.

The Harness Maker’s House Watercolor

The Harness Maker's House by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 20 x 16, Sold)

The Harness Maker’s House watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 20 x 16, Sold)

Last week I was one of 160 artists participating in a plein air competition.  The weather was a mixed bag, fog, mist, rain and sun which made watercolor painting a real challenge.  Still, it was a fabulous week of painting throughout the town of Cedarburg, WI.  There were so many interesting subjects to explore in a week!

“The Harness Maker’s House” watercolor is of the Charles Hinze House, a harness maker (circa 1860s).  The view looks west past the original well pump to the rare story and a half fieldstone barn.  This glimpse of a bygone era can still be enjoyed while driving down the original Green Bay Road in Historic Cedarburg.

Thank you to Ray, Sarah and Noah for being the very best hosts!  I could not have had a successful week without you guys.
