As a resident of Southern New Jersey, I have the good fortune of being surrounded by beautiful shore lines, rich farm lands and picturesque towns. These diverse landscapes allow me, as a regional impressionist artist, great opportunities to draw upon for much of my work.
My goal in painting is to recapture my initial feeling for a subject and convey that to the viewer. It is wonderful when someone tells you your painting caught their eye and held their interest. To me, my paintings let another person see through my eyes.
Originally from Chicago, I have made Southern New Jersey my home for over 35 years. My formal art training was at the American Academy of Art in Chicago where I studied both commercial and fine art. It was at the Academy, learning from Irving Shapiro, that my love for watercolor painting emerged. I love the challenge.
I am an Elected Member of New Jersey Watercolor Society, Signature member of Baltimore Watercolor Society. Member of Salem County Art League, Gloucester County Art League. Sustaining member of American Watercolor Society and Philadelphia Watercolor Society.
Whether holding a brush or not, I am constantly painting, always studying a subject that has caught my eye. Before I know it, I am mentally composing a painting. Taking notes, sketching, photographing, and figuring out how I’ll build the pigments to capture the play of light and shadow. I like clean, bright colors, and using lots of layers to achieve beautiful luminous paintings.
