This watercolor was a commission to be gifted for the recipient’s 40th birthday. Their party was a Great Gatsby theme and featured on “My Fab 40th” Bravo TV, hence the name of the painting, “The Stuff of Legends”. I thought it was a really unique keepsake, something they’ll be able to tell a few stories about years down the road. The amount of drawing before painting was pretty involved. Getting those angles right was crazy time consuming. I also masked the top of the structure so that I could do multiple layers in the sky area to achieve the intense blue color which made the home stand out. Below is a detail of the drawing and initial washes. Commission inquiries to mucciyvonne@yahoo.com ©Yvonne Pecor Mucci. All rights reserved. / October 27, 2015Beautiful!!! Hope your Plein aire was all you wanted it to be! Yvonne… a ?…if I have a 16×20 frame….can I do a watercolor on 10 x 14 sheet or should I do the size or closer to the size of the frame…even if matte is going to be used? Thanks, Florence…..see u tomorrow!

/ October 28, 2015Yes, Plein Air Brandywine valley was fantastic, ended up with a 2nd place!
If you’ve got a 16 x 20 frame, a standard pre-cut mat opening is 13.5 x 10.5. You’ll need to add at least a half inch to those dimensions because the mat should overlap the painting by .25 on all sides. I like to leave about a 1.5 of unpainted paper on all sides. So, if I add them all up, my paper size is 17 x 14.
(I prefer an even amount of matting 2.5 all around, which would mean you’d be having Ed do the framing. This would be a 14 x 18 piece of paper with a paintable area of 11.5 x 15.5, mat opening of 11 x 15)

/ October 28, 2015Dear Yvonne,
Such a lovely scene, reminiscent of an American version of Downtown Abby (probably spelled wrong). Such detail in the architecture and outstanding blue sky that highlights the house so well. I really enjoy this one.
