I am always photographing old barns. Taking the photo is the simple part. Simplifying the subject is a little tougher. I framed this painting and it has grown on me. Always surprised at how a painting looks once it is framed!

/ July 21, 2013I love taking photos of old barns, too. I like the painting but am wondering what it looked like before you added the small tree in front. What was your thinking when you added it? Does it add to the composition in some way that I’m missing? I’m thinking a lot about composition and would like to learn from you. 😉

/ July 21, 2013Thanks! I like to change composition from my photos. Usually I’m trying to improve it or simplify the subject so that the viewers eye is drawn to a specific area. In this painting the tree was added to reinforce the idea of the barn being abandoned. When I try this again, I’ll have to give that tree a little more thought!

/ July 21, 2013Thanks, that is what I thought because it is the same thoughts I have when I am composing my photographs.
