Saturday at Piney Point

“Saturday at Piney Point” 8×10 watercolor.

I was not going to paint because there was too much going on in the same day, but I didn’t want to miss participating in this annual plein air event through Cumberland County.

The day was cooler, breezy, and no humidity, so I went for it with the mindset of blissfully painting in the little free time I had. If the painting was successful, great, if it was not, at least I was outside painting. The satisfaction of completing this watercolor felt great, no regrets, and I made it on time to my next commitment and could not have been happier.

This watercolor is available through Gallery 50 in Bridgeton, NJ.

The Last Covered Bridge – Watercolor

“The Last Covered Bridge” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (sold)

This really is the last covered bridge in Wisconsin. I painted this for Cedarburg Plein Air. The challenge was the constant color changes in the water as the sun moved. Spent most of the day painting in this beautiful park shown in the image below.

This painting can be shipped framed 16 x 20, or unframed 11 x 15. Please email me at mucciyvonne@yahoo.com  ©Yvonne Pecor Mucci All rights reserved.

Napley Green – Watercolors

viewfromnapleygreen_mucci

“View From Napley Green” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

I was in Rockhall, MD to paint these two watercolors. The sketches and preliminary drawings shown below were done on site and the two paintings were completed in studio. I was stunned by the beauty and vastness of the property when I arrived. So quiet and serene. Sometimes it is overwhelming of what to portray. Luckily there were two paintings to be completed, but honestly, I could have painted many more beautiful scenes in this location.

napleygreen_sketches

“Napley Green” watercolors were commissioned gifts to the property owners. It is often more time consuming to paint a commission because you want it to be exactly what the person had in mind. So that equals a bit of corespondence back and forth. You take extra care in planning and executing, all the while hoping it will meet expectations. I’m happy to say the recipients were thrilled. What a fabulous gift from their friends.

I love being where the sky meets the ocean. Throughout the day, nature puts on a show. Often, I cannot leave till the last bit of light fades away. “Solo Flight” watercolor received People’s Choice award in the Nature and The Landscape competition at Gallery 50 in Bridgeton, NJ. The Cove At Riverwinds – Watercolor

“The Cove At Riverwinds” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Available)

Riverwinds sits on the Jersey side of the Delaware River south of Philadelphia. I could hardly see the city skyline across the river. The golf course was muted by the atmosphere. Usually there’s a lot of boating activity to watch both in the river and the adjacent cove, but not on this overcast morning. The low hanging clouds kept most home and brought a quiet peaceful feeling to this location. I started en plein air, but a few hours later the rain sent me packing to finish up in studio.

Peaceful Garden – Watercolor

peaceful_garden_mucci_watercolor

“Peaceful Garden” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Sold)

Sarah’s garden is beautiful! The simple subject of “Peaceful Garden” was complicated to paint. More detail? Less detail? …and so it went. The drawing had to be right and the background simplified because there was so much detail on the birdbath. I love capturing the light and pushing the color in a painting, it brings you right back to that place and time! Which was very peaceful.

This was Cedarburg Plein Air’s 16th year. Happy to have been part of it.

Stilt House “Locally Raised” – Watercolor

locally_raised_mucci_watercolor

“Locally Raised” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 14 x 11)

“Locally Raised” watercolor was painted for Cedarburg Plein Air gems which was the last day of the event. Lots of people were out and about, enjoying the town of Cedarburg, WI.

In the early 1900’s, the owner of the tavern asked the city for permission to add a second floor onto the existing building. After the city denied his request, he raised the building up on “stilts” and built a first floor underneath. Hence the name Stilt House. They have great food!

A retired hayrake sits rusting in front of a well preserved blue-gray barn in the Hamilton Historic District. This glade leading up to the barn glowed in the late afternoon sun. It was magical! Best part was being able to enjoy the company of friends while I finished painting.

Twisted – Watercolor

“Twisted” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Sold)

“Twisted at Turn Halle” was painted for the Plein Air Cedarburg event in Wisconsin. This 1867 fieldstone building sits in the Hamilton Historic District. The twisted tree made for an interesting subject, constantly turning in every direction.

The weather was perfect which resulted in some really strong painting from 150 artists. Thank you to my hosts, whom I treasured time spent. Love everything about this event except that it was a week earlier. Have to say that I missed being able to stroll the town during Strawberry Fest. Hopefully next year!

White Barn – Watercolor

“pleasant_valley_mucci_watercolor"

“White Barn” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 20 x 16, Available)

“White Barn” watercolor was painted during the Chestertown RiverArts “Paint The Town” plein air competition. Rich with farms, the area is not lacking for subject matter. Everything about this barn drew me in. Sitting on a little hill, multiple silos, wide open landscape, and the white washed wood with green trim, how could I resist!

After a full day of painting, RiverArts hosted the artists to a banquet of homemade dishes. YUM! Nice to break bread with fellow artists and hear stories of the unforgiving weather everyone experienced. Thank you to everyone at RiverArts who made sure we were all taken care of and provided a well attended artist reception.

Faded Blues – Watercolor

“Faded Blues” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, available)

When it is full summer and you’re painting plein air, sometimes you want a subject without a lot of green. That’s one of the reasons I chose to paint “Faded Blues”. Loved the old wood and missing shutter on this building that was being restored. It used to be a general store on Still Pond Road.

Such a rainy week for the Chestertown RiverArts “Paint The Town” plein air competition, but it did not stop any of the artists from producing quality work. The misting actually helped me apply texture on the blue clapboard.

“Creekside” watercolor was painted on a gorgeous day of plein air painting at the end of Rileys Mill Road in Chestertown, MD. “White Swan B&B” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, available)

So how does a watercolor artist paint in the rain? By bringing your big beach umbrella and crossing your fingers! My quick paint experiences are never great, full of stress, and limited to two hours including framing. But I do them to challenge myself. Pushing to make quick decisions on color and composition.

“White Swan Tavern” was painted for the RiverArts 7th Annual “Paint The Town” plein air competition in Chestertown, MD. The 18th century Bed and Breakfast is located near Washington College in the center of Chestertown historic district.

Morning Walk watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Sold)

Morning Walk watercolor was painted during the Plein Air Brandywine Valley exhibit at Winterthur Museum and Garden.  It depicts a little hiking trail behind Winterthur called Chandler Woods. I walked this trail and the adjacent meadow just on the outskirts of Winterthur after turning in my remaining paintings for the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition. Great fun painting and conversing with patrons!

I have to say thank you to every person who had a hand in making this event a success.  The tireless hours spent procuring locations, coordinating artists, feeding artists, exhibiting and selling the artwork is greatly appreciated!  Every sale benefits Children’s Beach House, a nonprofit that focuses on children with special needs. http://www.cbhinc.org

Indian Summer watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 20 x 16, Sold)

Imagine being able to walk through pastures of an amazing property and paint anywhere you wish! That was my experience at the Bright property on day three of the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition. I set up my easel on one of the back pastures with rolling hills on all sides and painted the view of the main barn. The title, Indian Summer, describes this day in late October which was filled with warm sunshine and beautiful fall colors.

Met lots of other artists and photographers, all enjoying this location while creating stunning artwork to help support Children’s Beach House, a nonprofit that focuses on special-needs children.  www.cbhinc.org  All of the artwork was then put up for exhibit and sale over the weekend at Winterthur Museum and Gardens.

Garden View watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Sold)

Around the corner from the Blacksmith Shop in Marshallton, PA there is a large federal style home with a garden out back. Late afternoon sunlight lit up these huge hydrangea against the stone building.

Garden View watercolor was my last painting before the sun disappeared.  That late afternoon sun is golden which added to the color in both the stone and hydrangeas.

This watercolor was painted as part of Plein Air Brandywine Valley which benefits Children’s Beach House.  http://www.cbhinc.org   Thank you to the art patron who purchased this painting.  Every sale benefits Children’s Beach House and I am thrilled to be a participant in this event.

Welcome To The Inn watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Sold)

Welcome To The Inn watercolor depicts the Marshalton Inn located in Marshallton, PA.  This was my choice for day two of the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition.  There are many beautiful historic buildings along Strasburg Road located about four miles west of West Chester.  The town was filled with artists and photographers capturing the many subjects along the main street. Amazing day!

I love the stone work on the Inn and the way the shadows cast across the different textures.  It was quite the challenge, but well worth it because I received the honor of 2nd place for this watercolor. Such a thrill when your name is called, especially when you were not expecting it!  Thank you to everyone who enjoyed my painting enough to choose it as a winner.

The Marshalton Inn hosted this event which helps out Children’s Beach House, a nonprofit that focuses on special-needs children.  www.cbhinc.org  Every sale benefits Children’s Beach House.  Thank you to the owners and staff of the Inn were so very accommodating to all of the artists.

Springhouse at Coverdale – Watercolor

Springhouse at Coverdale watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Sold)

Springhouse at Coverdale watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Sold)

I loved walking down a grassy path and discovering this springhouse with a row of hay bales sitting atop a back pasture.  There were still a few good hours of sunlight left for day one of the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition, so I set up my easel and got to work!

Most older farms employed a springhouse.  Some were built directly over a spring, others were built from fieldstone and used to keep water, milk and staples cool. This springhouse is part of the Coverdale Farm Preserve in Greenville, DE.

Plein Air Brandywine valley is more than a painting and photography competition. It is a fundraiser for Children’s Beach House, a nonprofit that focuses on special-needs children.  www.cbhinc.org  Over 70 artists paint and photograph during 4 days at different locations throughout the Brandywine Valley.  It ends with a gala at Winterthur for an exhibit and sale of all artwork. The Stuff of Legends – Watercolor

Stuff of Legends watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

The Stuff of Legends watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Sold)

This watercolor was a commission to be gifted for the recipient’s 40th birthday. Their party was a Great Gatsby theme and featured on “My Fab 40th” Bravo TV, hence the name of the painting, “The Stuff of Legends”. I thought it was a really unique keepsake, something they’ll be able to tell a few stories about years down the road. The amount of drawing before painting was pretty involved. Getting those angles right was crazy time consuming. I also masked the top of the structure so that I could do multiple layers in the sky area to achieve the intense blue color which made the home stand out. Below is a detail of the drawing and initial washes. Commission inquiries to mucciyvonne@yahoo.com ©Yvonne Pecor Mucci. All rights reserved. The Perfect Spot – Cedarburg Plein Air

theperfectspot_mucci

Had a fun time scouting around in the Wildcat convertible!  We came around the bend in the road to this absolutely perfect spot.  The barn, grasses, silo, everything was just right!  It felt like I was standing in a painting, so the last day and a half of the Cedarburg Plein Air competition was spent by the side of the road in pure heaven!  That’s why I named this watercolor “The Perfect Spot”.

This wonderful plein air event has 150 artists participating and creating over 500 paintings during the course of one week.  I appreciate all of their hard work and am so thrilled to have been part of it.  Of course none of it would be possible without the support of my family.  Being able to share the celebration with family and friends warms my heart.  Can’t wait till next year!

Cool Run – Cedarburg Plein Air

Cool Run watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Cool Run watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

It was a nice hot sunny day in Cedarburg, perfect for painting en plein air.  The moving water of Cedar Creek was both mesmerizing and challenging.  The cool water running over the dam and cascading down the rocks mid creek was bright white in the sunlight.  My goal in this watercolor was to preserve those whites along with trying to keep a loose feel to the painting.  This location was popular and it was nice to have the company of other artists while painting.  Each artist’s view was completely different even though we were standing only a few paces apart.

Gingerbread – Cedarburg Plein Air

Gingerbread watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Gingerbread watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Day two and three of Cedarburg Plein Air found me in the middle of town with way too many subject choices. I could spend weeks painting and only touch upon the abundance of interesting surroundings.

The Gingerbread embellishment on the 1849 Kuehfuss house is what drew me in. Of course once you start it, you ask yourself why in the world did I choose this building. So much detail for plein air, but the way the light hit the building and the picket fence made me jump in with both feet. Besides, figuring it out is half the challenge!

Downtown was full of people and I think most stopped to chat or take a look at the process. At one point I felt like I was giving a watercolor demo. The kids had the best questions!

This painting was not exhibited at the cultural center. I wish we were allowed to exhibit more than two paintings for the main event.
