“Pine Bank Arch” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (12 x 9, Available)
This past summer I sat on a bench in Central Park and painted this study of Pine Bank Arch Bridge. It is cast iron, and one of my favorites. My plan is to do a half sheet of this subject in plein air over several days.

“Bathing Beauties” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed to 14 x 11, Available)
“Bathing Beauties” watercolor depicts the beautiful southern shores of New Jersey. So far, we’ve had a very gray cold winter and I miss my sunny days at the shore! This painting was started during my last workshop and I finally pulled it out and put the finishing touches on it. I guess I am wishing that warm weather was only a few weeks away! This painting can be shipped framed or unframed. Please send inquiries to mucciyvonne@yahoo.com

“100 Acre Wood” by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed to 14 x 11, Available)
Painted on the last day of Plein Air Brandywine Valley during the exhibition at Winterthur. Across the meadow at Winterthur you can see these trees in contrast to each other. Can’t you picture Christopher Robin and Pooh bouncing over that hill?
This was a nice way to end a really great week of painting. Thank you to everyone who made all the details come together!

“Stone Arch Bridge” by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed to 11 x 14, Sold)
The stone arch bridge shown above was painted at Winterthur during the Brandywine Plein Air exhibition. I loved the fall colors reflecting in the water. Great day painting and talking about all of the beautiful locations included in this competition. These wonderful colors will be replaced with snow, and I may have to trek out there and capture another season!

“The Meadow at Winterthur” by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Sold)
Day four of Plein Air Brandywine Valley landed me at Winterthur Museum to paint the many colors of the meadow. Unbelievable week of painting while watching the landscape subtly change colors from summer to fall. Hated to see it end, but the gala to benefit Children’s Beach House is a fun way to end the week. It was a meeting of great artists and patrons, great food and a great cause. A portion of every sale benefits CBH. www.cbhinc.org

“Goodnight” by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Sold)
“What are all those people doing?” was the general conversation of people passing by. This was nocturnal painting at Chesapeake City, MD with Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition. Give artists a 6pm start time, a few led lights hanging off their easels, and see what they come up with. Some race to catch that twilight color, while others wait till it gets really dark. Crazy, challenging, and fun are nocturne competitions. You have to know how to mix vibrant darks, if you don’t, you’ll learn really fast!

“Watching the River Flow” by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 20 x 16, Sold)
Another perfect day at Chesapeake City, MD with Plein Air Brandywine Valley. Throughout this picturesque town, one could find artists everywhere. I spent the day close to the Bayard House and loved every minute both painting and chatting with people stopping by to see the painting progress. With the bridge so prominent, you’d think that too many paintings would look the same, but they weren’t even close. Love seeing everyone’s interpretation of this waterfront town.
The gala was well attended and held at Winterthur Museum and Gardens. A portion of every sale goes to Children’s Beach House. Check out their program at www.cbhinc.org

“Last Light” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Sold)
“Last Light” watercolor was a quick draw for the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition. It started at 4pm, so the light was fading. It is a big challenge for me to capture a moment in two hours, including framing. During these quick draw competitions the time goes by in a flash and you rely on skills you hope will be there when you need them! You take a deep breath, start throwing on paint and remind yourself that this is the very best you can do on that day. Crazy, but I would not miss participating!
It was fun to see locals at the Marshalton Inn viewing artwork that had been started a few hours earlier! Part of every sale benefited the Children’s Beach House. www.cbhinc.org
Below is the thumbnail sketch I did before the Quick Draw start. These handy little sketch books were compliments of Jerry’s Artarama in Wilmington, DE. I used mine all week! Thank you to Annie Strack who procured the samples and put together swag bags for the painters.

“Garden View” by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Sold)
I was one of many artists painting the historic homes sitting along Strasburg Road as part of the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition. “Garden View” watercolor depicts a 1760s home in Marshalton, PA which was painted on the second day of the competition.
The homeowners were so gracious and accommodating! I’d love to get back there again to paint more of these historic buildings.

Indian Summer at Haskell’s by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 20 x 16, Sold)
“Indian Summer at Haskell’s” watercolor was painted during the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition which benefits Children’s Beach House.
I appreciate being one of 75 artists capturing the idyllic scenes of the Brandywine Valley during a week of perfect weather! The location was inspiring with a combination of green silos and stone walls in this functioning farm. It had everything an artist could wish for in a subject. Thank you to the Haskell Farm for opening up their property during this event.
This painting was sold during the Gala held at Winterthur Museum & Gardens.

“Reflections” watercolor was painted during a plein air outing to Greenwich Lake with Gloucester County Art League. When the sky is a bit gray, the color can be more vibrant than on a sunny day. Everything was so lush that day.
Weather usually doesn’t stop plein air painters, unless it is pouring, from painting on location. Plus you get to spend the day outside! I plan on getting back to this location when the fall colors are in full bloom to do a larger version.

“Approaching” watercolor is a view of the Delaware river. It was late in the day which made the colors more intense. This painting was started as a demonstration for Salem County Art League and finished in studio. It was a great example of how to exaggerate a watercolor bloom to show heaviness in the clouds of the approaching storm.
We’re coming into fall, with it’s bursting color. Next week is Plein Air Brandywine Valley, an exciting event showcasing 80 artists. Can’t wait!
This watercolor was displayed in Gallery 50’s Nature and The Landscape exhibit.

Sarah’s garden is beautiful! The simple subject of “Peaceful Garden” was complicated to paint. More detail? Less detail? …and so it went. The drawing had to be right and the background simplified because there was so much detail on the birdbath. I love capturing the light and pushing the color in a painting, it brings you right back to that place and time! Which was very peaceful.
This was Cedarburg Plein Air’s 16th year. Happy to have been part of it.

“Locally Raised” watercolor was painted for Cedarburg Plein Air gems which was the last day of the event. Lots of people were out and about, enjoying the town of Cedarburg, WI.
In the early 1900’s, the owner of the tavern asked the city for permission to add a second floor onto the existing building. After the city denied his request, he raised the building up on “stilts” and built a first floor underneath. Hence the name Stilt House. They have great food!

“Red Pops” was yet another tough quick paint for me. Besides it only being a 2 hour window for painting and framing, it had to be 90 degrees in town. I found a bit of shade and a few red poppies and gave it a go. Luckily before I had my paper stamped I found my palette missing, quick trip home and I was good to go, or so I thought.
2 hours goes quick, I was just about running up the street with my framed painting to make the time cutoff. So I lived to paint another day at the Cedarburg Plein Air competition! Eventually I will master these quick paints! Till then, they are memories which make me laugh, roll my eyes, and cringe at the same time!

A retired hayrake sits rusting in front of a well preserved blue-gray barn in the Hamilton Historic District. This glade leading up to the barn glowed in the late afternoon sun. It was magical! Best part was being able to enjoy the company of friends while I finished painting.

“Twisted at Turn Halle” was painted for the Plein Air Cedarburg event in Wisconsin. This 1867 fieldstone building sits in the Hamilton Historic District. The twisted tree made for an interesting subject, constantly turning in every direction.
The weather was perfect which resulted in some really strong painting from 150 artists. Thank you to my hosts, whom I treasured time spent. Love everything about this event except that it was a week earlier. Have to say that I missed being able to stroll the town during Strawberry Fest. Hopefully next year!

“White Barn” watercolor was painted during the Chestertown RiverArts “Paint The Town” plein air competition. Rich with farms, the area is not lacking for subject matter. Everything about this barn drew me in. Sitting on a little hill, multiple silos, wide open landscape, and the white washed wood with green trim, how could I resist!
After a full day of painting, RiverArts hosted the artists to a banquet of homemade dishes. YUM! Nice to break bread with fellow artists and hear stories of the unforgiving weather everyone experienced. Thank you to everyone at RiverArts who made sure we were all taken care of and provided a well attended artist reception.

When it is full summer and you’re painting plein air, sometimes you want a subject without a lot of green. That’s one of the reasons I chose to paint “Faded Blues”. Loved the old wood and missing shutter on this building that was being restored. It used to be a general store on Still Pond Road.
Such a rainy week for the Chestertown RiverArts “Paint The Town” plein air competition, but it did not stop any of the artists from producing quality work. The misting actually helped me apply texture on the blue clapboard.

“Creekside” watercolor was painted on a gorgeous day of plein air painting at the end of Rileys Mill Road in Chestertown, MD. So how does a watercolor artist paint in the rain? By bringing your big beach umbrella and crossing your fingers! My quick paint experiences are never great, full of stress, and limited to two hours including framing. But I do them to challenge myself. Pushing to make quick decisions on color and composition.
“White Swan Tavern” was painted for the RiverArts 7th Annual “Paint The Town” plein air competition in Chestertown, MD. The 18th century Bed and Breakfast is located near Washington College in the center of Chestertown historic district.

My daughter planted an apple tree from a seed many years ago. Two of these apples were from the tree I thought would never grow. I set up this still life on my picnic table while the late afternoon sun was casting strong shadows. The color was so rich looking, it made me want to take a bite of those apples. They didn’t last long!

Sycamore trees are messy with their peeling bark and seed pods, but at the same time, that’s what makes them beautiful! This fall scene could be found anywhere, but it is right down the road in southern New Jersey.

Gertrude and Heathcliff watercolor depicts my go to place down the shore. In this painting, I wanted to push the variety of color found in the water.

I sketched out these flowers while I was waiting around at a show. I neglected to take a few photos and found myself painting from memory for a class demo. It reminded me that you don’t want to be a slave to your photo references. I knew the colors and light direction from memory, so I felt freedom in painting without the photo reference. Great fun pushing the color vibrancy in this watercolor.
