Webb House – Plein Air Brandywine Valley

webbhouse_mucci

“Webb House” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed to 16 x 20, Sold)

The “Webb House” sits across the meadow in Longwood Gardens. This is a favorite place to paint because the meadow continuously changes color throughout the day.

I painted this 1730s farm house during one of the largest plein air competitions in the east coast. Plein Air Brandywine Valley happens every fall and benefits Children’s Beach House. About 70 artists paint for 4 days ending with a Gala at Winterthur Museum and Gardens where 500 pieces of art go up for sale. Such a great event! For more information about Children’s Beach House visit cbhinc.org

This painting can be shipped framed or unframed. Inquiries to mucciyvonne@yahoo.com A portion of the sale will be donated to the beach house. ©Yvonne Pecor Mucci All rights reserved.

Ah, That Cohansey Feeling – Watercolor

cohanseysong_mucci

“Ah, That Cohansey Feeling” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed to 20 x 26)

Large open areas of land, water, and sky are magical. They draw you in with their untouched beauty which makes one feel that time is standing still. At this location, I felt like I could breathe, and when I did, the quiet sounds of song birds could be heard.

“Ah, That Cohansey Feeling” watercolor was painted for the Nature And The Landscape annual competition at Gallery 50 in Bridgeton, NJ. I think others felt what I painted, as it received Honorable Mention.

This painting is currently part of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society’s 2019 Members Exhibition of Works on Paper through February 22nd, 2019. Boyer Gallery at the Hill School in Pottstown, PA.

“Creekside” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed to 14 x 11, Available)

creeksidebrandywineriver_mucci

Inside Brandywine River Museum made for a cozy day of painting during Chadds Ford Paint Out. Large sunny windows were a great alternative to freezing temps outside! Exploring the landscape during winter really expands your understanding of the landscape. Love this event, especially since I got to paint with a few friends.

This event is hosted by Chadds Ford Historical Society. Artwork remains on exhibit for sale at CFHS through 3/2/18 www.chaddsfordhistory.org

Twisted – Watercolor

twisted_mucci_watercolor

“Twisted” watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Sold)

“Twisted at Turn Halle” was painted for the Plein Air Cedarburg event in Wisconsin. This 1867 fieldstone building sits in the Hamilton Historic District. The twisted tree made for an interesting subject, constantly turning in every direction.

The weather was perfect which resulted in some really strong painting from 150 artists. Thank you to my hosts, whom I treasured time spent. Love everything about this event except that it was a week earlier. Have to say that I missed being able to stroll the town during Strawberry Fest. Hopefully next year!

Sycamore Walk – Watercolor

Sycamore Walk watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Available)

Sycamore Walk watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Available)

Sycamore trees are messy with their peeling bark and seed pods, but at the same time, that’s what makes them beautiful! This fall scene could be found anywhere, but it is right down the road in southern New Jersey.

I wanted to keep this painting fairly loose and play up the fall leaves along with the white tree limbs against the blue sky.

This painting is available and can be shipped, please send inquiries to mucciyvonne@yahoo.com

Frame size is 16 x 20, mat opening is 11.5 x 15.5.  It is painted on 140 pound Arches cold press paper.

Gertrude and Heathcliff – Watercolor

Gertrude & Heathcliff watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Gertrude & Heathcliff watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14, Available)

Gertrude and Heathcliff watercolor depicts my go to place down the shore. In this painting, I wanted to push the variety of color found in the water.

When I look at this watercolor it makes me chuckle a little imagining those birds carrying on a conversation. The name is a nod to the past when comedian Red Skelton performed skits about two seagulls named Gertrude and Heathcliff.

This painting is available and can be shipped.

Low Tide At East Point – Watercolor

Low Tide At East Point watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 24 x 18, Available)

Low Tide At East Point watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 23 x 19, Available)

East Point Lighthouse sits along the Delaware Bay in one of the most serene, beautiful locations in Heislerville, New Jersey.  In this watercolor, I wanted to portray the sea grasses and the terrain leading up to the light house.  I know this location has been painted, sketched and photographed by numerous artists over the years, but it is irresistible subject matter.  Painting on location here is unbelievably peaceful.

I painted “Low Tide At East Point” for the annual Nature And The Landscape competition through Gallery 50, Inc. in Bridgeton, NJ. The exhibit is a comprehensive look at the watershed throughout southern New Jersey as portrayed by many local artists.  I was thrilled to be included.

This watercolor painting is available.

John Chad’s House – Watercolor

John Chad's House watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

John Chad’s House by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 20 x 24, Sold)
Inquiries to mucciyvonne@yahoo.com

This historical gem is located in Chadds Ford, PA. The John Chad house was built in 1725 and sits on top of a hill overlooking the Brandywine River Valley. Believe it or not, for me, the fun part of this watercolor painting was capturing the detail of the stone work.

Salem NJ Pride – Watercolor

The weather was great for the Salem County Arts In Bloom tour! Once again, Royal Port Antiques hosted the Art League.  Just south of Royal Port you can find many beautiful historical homes, which is where I painted en plein air.  These doors and the flag drew me in.  It was a lot of fun to talk with people taking the tour while painting.

Salem Pride watercolor depicts two homes on Market Street in Salem, NJ. To the left is the James Wood – 1760 colonial, on the right is the Samuel Clement – 1790s federal style brick.

Mood’s Farm Market – Watercolor

Mood's Farm Market watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 18 x 24, Available)

Mood’s Farm Market watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 18 x 24, Available)

Mood’s Farm Market is a local landmark in Southern NJ.  The rusty orange windmill against a sweeping blue sky was striking in contrast.  I purposely pushed the color saturation to hopefully portray what it felt like to be at the market.  This watercolor painting will remind me of the beautiful day I experienced picking apples while walking through the orchard.  I’ll be back there come spring!

No Trespassing – Watercolor

No Trespassing watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 24 x 18, Available)

No Trespassing watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 24 x 18, Available)

The sign reads, No Trespassing!
This old barn was drenched in sunlight, so I had to paint this scene.
“No Trespassing” watercolor depicts one of the many vanishing landscapes being replaced by a growing community. I love seeing active farms while driving in southern New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland and hope they don’t fall by the wayside. There is nothing better than fresh produce from the farm! Buy local!

This painting was a progressive demo for my watercolor workshop.  It is painted on 140# Arches cold press watercolor paper.

Sundowner – Watercolor

Sundowner watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 15, Available)

Sundowner watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 15, sold)

This Sundowner rose grows in the flower bed next to my home.  As the trees around me have grown, so has the lack of sun. Because of the abundant shade, this rose bush produced only two blooms. Looks like I will be moving it to a sunnier location come spring! Lots of glazing was used to create the glowing color of this sundowner rose watercolor. It is one of my smaller paintings, only 8 x 10 before framing.  It is painted on 140# Arches cold press watercolor paper. Painting inquiries to mucciyvonne@yahoo.com ©Yvonne Pecor Mucci. Where The Sycamore Grows – Watercolor

Where The Sycamore Grows watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Available)

Where The Sycamore Grows watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Sold)

It poured rain non-stop on the 3rd day of the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition! I chose to paint at Haskells (Hill Girt Farm, a local landmark) located in Chadds Ford. Such a picturesque location!

This sycamore tree caught my attention with its bare white limbs reaching up to the sky. It was next to one of the smaller stone buildings on the property. The rain made the wet bark look like all the color was running down the trunk into the ground. I thought it would be an impossible painting day! With shelter from a pop-up tent and beach umbrella I gave it a go and it turned out to be an exhausting, but successful day.

75 artists come together through Plein Air Brandywine Valley to support the Children’s Beach House. This is a nonprofit organization that helps special-needs children reach their highest potential as functioning members of their families and the community. Every sale from this competition benefits the Children’s Beach House.  http://www.cbhinc.org

Thank you to the Haskell family who opened their farm for a second day to those artists that were rained out!

A Grand Era – Watercolor

A Grand Era watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed

A Grand Era watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 16 x 20, Available)

I was thrilled to be juried into the Plein Air Brandywine Valley competition.  For one week, myself and 75 artists were given access to some of the most scenic properties of the Brandywine Valley, including private estates, land preserves, and renowned DuPont properties.  The week closed with an exhibit and sale of all artwork at Winterthur Museum. Every sale benefits Children’s Beach House, a nonprofit that focuses on special-needs children.  www.cbhinc.org

The beauty of these locations was overwhelming. For the first day of painting I chose Auburn Heights Preserve and Marshall Steam Museum located in Yorklyn, Delaware.  This 1897 Auburn Heights mansion was built overlooking the Marshall Brothers Paper Mill in Yorklyn, Delaware by Israel and Elizabeth (Lizzie) Marshall.

The stone turrets were especially interesting.  The sun was very fleeting and in spite of the cold and gray day, I really enjoyed painting this former home.  I can only imagine the opulent lifestyle this Victorian family lived.  Thus, the painting name “A Grand Era”.

A lot of hard work goes into coordinating these plein air events.  Thank you to everyone for all of your hard work in bringing plein air artists together to support the Children’s Beach House.

What’s In The Barn – Watercolor

What's In The Barn Watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

What’s In The Barn Watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 17 x 20, Sold)

The collecting and restoring of antique autos is a lifelong passion equal to that of an artist. The idea of this watercolor painting came from the owner of this beautiful 1948 Willys Overland Jeepster. His dairy barn was the perfect setting. The chickens were a little whimsy thrown in! I thought showing the sliding barn doors added more interest. My brother and sister-inlaw helped slide those barn doors around while I took lots of reference photos. Fun painting from concept to finish!  Thank you to John and Cecily.

Leaving Mary Elmer – Plein Air Watercolor

Leaving Mary Elmer watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci

Leaving Mary Elmer watercolor by Yvonne Pecor Mucci (Framed 11 x 14)

I participated in the Cohansey Riverfest Plein Air Competition in Bridgeton, NJ a few weeks ago.  The criterion was to portray the Cohansey River Watershed.  I was really torn choosing which view would make for a better painting, Mary Elmer Lake or the outflow from the dam.  Rain was threatening and the sun was hard to find, so the outflow view was the best choice.  It all worked out to a great day of painting outdoors and a 1st place award.

This plein air competiton was sponsored by the Cumberland County Cultural & Heritage Commission and Gallery 50 in Bridgeton, NJ.  Thank you to Matt and Gallery 50!

This painting is part of the Nature & The Landscape, An Environmental Perspective exhibit which runs through September 27th at Gallery 50.  There are 90 beautiful paintings on display.
